‘All Together Now 2’ conference
Approximately 100 delegates attended the ‘All Together Now 2’ conference at New County Hall, Truro. The Cornwall Branch Executive developed the programme, aimed at health care assistants and assistant practitioners and worked hard to make the day the success it was. The keynote speech was given by Dr Peter Carter, who highlighted the importance of the House of Lords ruling on Wright and others versus the Secreatary of State for Health and other respondents which ruled that the application of the provisional listing to the protection of vulnerable adults register is contrary to Article 6 and Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
The delegates also heard from Gill Robertson, RCN Adviser and Lynn Young, RCN Primary Health Care Adviser, on the Health Care Support Worker toolkit, RCN and the future of community services. Sue Thomas, RCN Long Term Conditions Adviser, was also in attendance, linking with chronic disease specialists and exhibitors. Speakers also included representatives from Truro College and the Open University, indicating the courses available to support development of health and social care skilled workers.
Cornwall Branch Chair, Margaret North, presented Dr Peter Carter with a £450 cheque for RCN Nurses Welfare, proceeds from last year's conference.
The conference was very well evaluated and Cornwall branch executive have started to plan a further conference for 2010.
Sue Matthews chaired the conference and would like to congratulate the Cornwall Branch members on their organisation and enthusiasm, and hopefully their increased health care support worker membership following the event.
