Good practice at Hospiscare, Exeter

Dr Peter Carter, RCN Chief Executive & General Secretary visited Hospiscare in Exeter on Monday 8 June.  Hospiscare is a local hospice charity offering care and support to people with life-threatening illnesses.  They employ specialist nurses in the community.

Dr Carter was welcomed by Sarah Folland, Director of Patient Services, who said "We feel privileged that Dr Carter is taking the time to visit our service. This recognises the value of the patient-focused service provided by Hospiscare's nursing team and it gives us the opportunity to demonstrate the impact and influence that we bring to patients and carers in the community, acute hospital and hospice settings and the many educational initiatives led by Hospiscare staff.".

Dr Carter was accompanied by Kate Tompkins, Regional Director, RCN South West and Learning Representative Karry Macnish who works at Hospiscare.  Dr Carter and Kate were shown the 'Goldfish Bowl' observations of care initiative which Dr Carter said "was very moving and thought provoking".  You can read more about this in the 1 July 2009 edition of the RCN Bulletin.
