Make a stand against the Pay Cartel - ‘Email your MP’

Published: 08 August 2012

The RCN have developed a new tool, which can be used to ‘email your MP’ to help guide you through the process of emailing your local MP and expressing your concerns regarding the objectives of the South West Pay Cartel.

As no doubt you are aware, the cartel now incorporates 20 trust members from the region, with the aims of: reducing annual leave, increasing working hours, reducing pay and other terms and conditions across the region. Nursing staff could face possible dismissal, if they don’t agree to the changes. This is unacceptable!

The tool ‘email your MP’ has been designed to help you through this process and is very user friendly, enabling you to find out who your local MP is, and helping you write your letter (a template is available to use, if preferred). Not only does the new system make emailing your MP easier and quicker, it also allows us to track how many letters have been sent to each.

The new tool launched just over a week ago (Friday 27 July), and has already proved popular with over 949 of our members from the South West using the site to write to their local MPs. This is a really good initial response, however we need more of you to get involved and express your concerns on regional pay and the Pay Cartel, asking your MP to raise this issue with the Secretary of State for Health.

So if you haven’t already, get involved and ask your MP to stand up for nurses against regional pay: http://frontlinefirst.rcn.org.uk/MP-email

Please encourage all your colleagues, members and non members, to do the same!

Visit the Pay Cartel website and see what other ways you can get involved.
