Nutrition Now Workshop at the Royal Cornwall Hospital
Published: 20 May 2009
An RCN Nutrition workshop was held on the 17 April at the Knowledge Spa which was attended by 23 very enthusiastic and motivated members of RCHT staff. Workshops included the exploration of patient safety issues around nutrition and observations of care (including protected meal times). Improving service delivery and the importance of team working were also considered. The session on nutritional screening was particularly relevant because the Trust will soon adopt the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool - (MUST). Finally, each member of staff focused on one aspect of nutrition and developed a firm plan of action to implement in their individual areas. This will be followed up by the facilitators in 2 months time. A delicious lunch was kindly provided by REGEN, the patient food delivery system, to give staff an opportunity to sample the food on offer to patients in RCHT.
The day has generated a wealth of ideas and initiatives which aim to enhance nutritional care across the Trust. This was down to the interaction and hard work of all those that attended. This workshop has reinforced the commitment of all staff across RCHT to deliver excellent nutrition and hydration to our patients.
