Bogus caller alert
Published: 09 April 2009
An RCN member has reported that a man calling himself a 'chairman' of the RCN has tried to obtain personal bank details during an unsolicited telephone call.
The man claimed to have something which he needed to send to the member and initially asked for clarification of her address before requesting her bank details - which she did not give him.
If members receive similar calls they should not give out any details. It is highly unusual for the RCN to call members and request this kind of information. If in doubt whether the call is genuine, they should end the conversation and call RCN Direct on 0845 772 6100.
Members should report suspicious calls to RCN Direct in order for us to determine whether this is an isolated incident or a more widespread problem.
