Chair of RCN Council receives CBE
Published: 06 December 2012
The Chair of the RCN’s governing Council, Professor Kath McCourt, was yesterday awarded a CBE by Her Majesty the Queen during an investiture at Buckingham Palace.
Professor McCourt, Dean at the School of Health, Community and Education Studies at Northumbria University and an RCN Fellow, was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June for services to nursing. She has been Chair of RCN Council since October 2011 and is one of the country’s leading academics in nursing education.
Professor McCourt said: “I had the opportunity to meet some fascinating and inspiring people, and to speak to the Queen was a privilege. Her Majesty enquired about my job and I explained my role at Northumbria University and the position I hold at the RCN. She was genuinely interested in how I juggle the demands of my work.”
She added: “It is a great honour to receive the award of CBE. I see it as a credit to the nursing profession. The award might just be for me but it represents what nurses dedicate their careers to do.”
