Changes to the UK immigration rules
Published: 29 June 2012
A series of changes to UK immigration rules will be introduced this month and may have an impact on some RCN members and their families.
The changes, due to be implemented on 9 July, include:
- a new income requirement of £18,600 for people wishing to sponsor a partner to come to the UK
- an extended period (from two to five years) before spouses and partners can apply for settlement in the UK
- a review of the application of Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights to immigration cases.
RCN members are being encouraged to telephone the RCN Immigration Advice Service 0345 408 4391 (option one) if they have concerns about how the changes may affect them.
