Published: 28 May 2009

The Royal College of Nursing is sad to receive news of the announcement of the death of Dr Mona Grey OBE FRCN SRN SCM.

Mona was without doubt the most influential and inspirational nurse leader in the history of Northern Ireland. She was the first salaried Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing in Northern Ireland and served for many years as the leader of the RCN in Northern Ireland before being appointed as the first government Chief Nursing Officer for Northern Ireland. Mona was appointed Honorary Vice-President of the Royal College of Nursing in 1996 and Fellow of the Royal College of Nursing in 2004. She was also the inaugural recipient of the RCN Northern Ireland Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dr Mona Grey will be held on Sunday 14 June 2009 at 3.30pm at St Mary's Church of Ireland, Comber, County Down. Refreshments will be provided after the service.

Mona's wisdom, professional expertise, sense of humour and deep love of nursing and the Royal College of Nursing will be greatly missed.
