How would you save money in the NHS?

Published: 26 June 2009

The Royal College of Nursing is encouraging its members to participate in a BBC programme which will explore how savings could be made in the NHS. The Today programme is inviting suggestions from individuals on how they would save the NHS money, asking 'if the NHS budget was going to be cut, where should the savings be made?'

The programme is looking for practical suggestions from people who work in the NHS, or who have dealings with the NHS, on how the service can save money or become more efficient.

Tell them your suggestions for improving the way things are done in areas such as:

  • primary care
  • hospitals
  • the supply, use and purchase of medicines and equipment
  • NHS management.

The BBC programme intends to explore the suggestions and put them to the test in a series of reports. They promise to treat your emails in confidence and will not publish any information that could lead to your identification without contacting you directly beforehand.

This is an excellent opportunity for NHS health care staff to have their say and RCN members are encouraged to send their suggestions to the Today programme. To contact the programme, go to their website: www.bbc.co.uk/today or email: today@bbc.co.uk, with the subject heading 'NHS savings'.
