Integrated care pathways survey
Published: 20 March 2013
A survey has been launched to clarify areas of concern about integrated care pathways (ICPs) and establish what is valued about them.
The survey seeks the views of registered nurses and doctors working in England to identify when and how they use integrated care pathways (ICP), and where they prefer not to use them.
ICP is a generic term for frameworks that provide co-ordinated multidisciplinary care at the end of a person’s life.
The Liverpool Care Pathway (LCP) is a widely known example of an ICP. In the wake of concerns about the use of the LCP, the survey aims to clarify what these are, and better understand the extent and variations of the use of ICPs to improve care.
Amanda Cheesley, RCN Long Term Conditions Adviser, said: "We are keen to ensure strong evidence is gathered as a result of this survey. I encourage all registered nurse RCN members in England to fill it in so we can take action to restore confidence in the use of the LCP, and so the RCN can be part of the solution."
The findings of the survey will be reported to the independent review panel set up by the Minister of State for Care and Support, Norman Lamb MP, and chaired by Baroness Julia Neuberger.
Fill in the survey.
The survey closes 25 April.
