Mary Seacole memorial appeal reaches landmark figure
Published: 19 April 2013
The total amount of money raised for the Mary Seacole Memorial Statue Appeal has now passed £300,000. This is over half way towards the target of £500,000.
The RCN is a longstanding supporter of the appeal, which aims to capture the spirit of Mary, reflect her achievements, and remind the public of the importance of the nursing profession, in a memorial statue.
Vice Chair-Person of the Mary Seacole Memorial Statue Appeal Professor Elizabeth Anionwu said: "We are delighted at the increase in the level of donations and sponsorships and would urge the public to continue to support us with their donations, however small. In this way, the first statue in the world for Mary Seacole will be erected in the near future within the grounds of St Thomas' Hospital, London. Please visit our website to donate using the JustGiving button, thank you."
