Meningitis vaccine decision is positive for public health

The RCN has welcomed the decision of the Department of Health to introduce the meningococcal B (MenB) vaccine into the national childhood vaccination programme.
Addressing a serious public health concern
Dr Peter Carter, Chief Executive & General Secretary of the RCN, said: “This is an important development as the vaccine has the potential to save many lives. Invasive meningococcal infections remain a serious public health concern in the UK and the introduction of a MenB vaccine will help to protect people from dangerous diseases.
“The RCN is keen to play a part in helping to prepare nursing staff for this addition to the vaccination programme and in promoting best practice amongst health professionals involved in its delivery.”
