The Care Services Minister Ivan Lewis has congratulated the NHS on major improvements in key mental health services.
Latest figures show an 11% increase in the number of specialist crisis resolution home treatments supporting people and an increase of 27% in early intervention team treatments for young people experiencing their first episode of psychosis.
At a ceremony to mark the beginning of the construction of a new mental health unit in Essex, the Minister said: "This positive news demonstrates that frontline services are pulling together to improve the quality of care for people with mental health needs."
RCN Mental Health Adviser Ian Hulatt responded saying "These statistics clearly demonstrate the result of increased and appropriate funding to mental health services. However, funding alone does not produce these results. They are a testament to the skills and abilities of front line mental health nurses who are to be congratulated for these excellent results."
