National Stalking Awareness Day: spread the word

Published: 15 April 2013

The Royal College of Nursing is encouraging its members to spread the message about National Stalking Awareness Day, which takes place on 18 April.

This year’s theme is “Know the law, use the law”. Although legislation differs slightly in England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, stalking behaviour is against the law throughout the UK.

Kim Sunley, RCN Senior Employment Relations Adviser, said stalking is a serious crime which can have a devastating effect on an individual.

“We are aware of cases where nurses and health care assistants have been subjected to stalking, often in connection with their public facing work.  We urge employers to take this matter seriously and support employees who raise concerns; some have already introduced robust policies on stalking.  RCN members can also seek help and support from the RCN by contacting RCN Direct.”

National Stalking Awareness Day is organised by the National Stalking Helpline
