New award rewards compassion

Published: 19 October 2012

For the first time, nurses who show exceptional compassion can be nominated by their colleagues or members of the public for a special award.

Launched this year, the Florence Nightingale Foundation Chairman’s Award for Compassionate Nursing Care is one of several new awards that form part of Nursing Standard’s prestigious Nurse of the Year 2013 awards.

To nominate someone for this new award, colleagues or members of the public must provide details of the nurse’s exceptional caring. Submissions should emphasise how the nurse treated those in their care, maintaining dignity, and showing warmth, sensitivity and respect.

The awards feature 14 categories that cover all aspects of nursing care, ranging from mental health to defence nursing, and health care assistant to ward sister.

The closing date for entries is Wednesday 7 November 2012.
