Published: 03 May 2013

Nursing staff and other health professionals are being urged to provide more help for patients with their medicines to improve outcomes and avoid medicines waste.

Medicines Optimisation: Helping Patients Make the Most of Medicines, published by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and endorsed by the Royal College of Nursing, provides four guiding principles to help front-line professionals in England support patients to improve their quality of life and outcomes from better use of medicines.

“This guide will assist members who are involved in any element of medicines to ensure patients and clients they see are achieving maximum health gain and least harm from all medicines in a safe efficient and effective way,” said Rebecca Cheatle, RCN Primary Health Care Adviser.
