New RCN initiative to shape nursing’s future
Published: 03 September 2012
The Royal College of Nursing has today launched a new website for members as part of an initiative that will help tackle the professional issues affecting nursing staff, and highlight the skills and expertise required to be part of the profession.
This is nursing will also challenge the public’s perception of modern-day nursing. In two weeks, adverts will start appearing on buses in towns and cities all over the UK, making it clear that nursing is a highly skilled and caring role, and a profession that is both challenging and rewarding.
This is nursing includes seven areas of work and members can read more about them on the new website. RCN President Andrea Spyropoulos said: “The RCN wants to explore these areas and find ways of ensuring that nothing stands in the way of good patient care – from removing unnecessary paperwork to tackling unsafe staffing levels.”
The seven areas are:
- nurse leadership
- professional attitudes and behaviours
- nurse education
- the training and regulation of health care assistants
- quality and the RCN Principles of Nursing Practice
- staffing levels
- paperwork and administration.
The RCN is also calling on members to say what nursing means to them. Members’ comments will be used on the public side of the This is nursing website, launching in two weeks, to demonstrate that nursing is full of remarkable people committed to providing the best care.
