New RCN publication on managing diarrhoea in adults

Published: 15 March 2013

The Royal College of Nursing has launched a new publication on managing diarrhoea in adults.

The guidance has been developed in collaboration with patients and health care workers as a holistic document to recognise and support the management of acute diarrhoea in adult patients, regardless of the care setting. It should be used to complement local policies on the management of diarrhoea but may also be useful in supporting the development of relevant policies and procedures in health care organisations where they don’t already exist.

The RCN believes that the impact of managing diarrhoea, whether acute or chronic, can be felt by all those supporting or caring for patients, including family, carers or members of the health care team.
