RCN President Andrea Spyropoulos and Deputy President Cecilia Anim have been elected unopposed for their second two-year terms of office.
Andrea Spyropoulos is a registered nurse, midwife and senior lecturer. Her main interest lies in acute surgery, public health and health care planning. She has spent 30 years in the nursing service spanning a vast range of surgical and medical services and academic leadership.
“I’m thrilled to be re-elected as your President, and grateful for the fantastic support of the membership. I am looking forward to the next two years and to continuing to meet as many of you as possible,” she told members.
Cecilia trained as a midwife in Ghana and came to the UK in the 1970s. Since then, she has worked in various medical settings before specialising in family planning and all aspects of women’s health. “It is a real privilege to be able to continue representing such dedicated nursing staff, who make a difference to patients every single day,” she said.
Other RCN elections are now open. There are eight candidates for the two student member of RCN Council seats and four candidates standing in the election for the two health practitioner members of Council – representing health care assistants and assistant practitioners. Voting in both these elections closes at 5pm on 14 September. Find out more at www.rcn.org.uk/elections
