The Royal College of Nursing is sad to learn of the deaths of former Council Member Stuart Mahon and RCN Fellow Dr Susan Pembrey.

Stuart Mahon served on RCN Council in 1987 and was Chair of the RCN Education Committee from 1990 to 1995. In 1997 his input was recognised with an RCN Award of Merit. “Stuart’s contribution to both nursing and the RCN was immense and he will be very much missed by all who knew him,” said RCN Chief Executive & General Secretary Dr Peter Carter.

Dr Susan Pembrey FRCN, OBE, was made a Fellow of the RCN in 1979.The RCN Fellowship is one of the highest awards the RCN can bestow and is only given to those who have made an exceptional contribution to nursing or health care. “Susan made a huge contribution to nursing and the College,” added Dr Carter.
