RCN launches fertility nursing guidance
Published: 11 March 2013
The Royal College of Nursing has today launched a new education and training framework for fertility nurses.
RCN Midwifery & Women’s Health Adviser Carmel Bagness said: “Fertility nursing is an exciting field for nurses to develop their career, whilst providing high quality compassionate care to patients at a vulnerable time in their lives. It is a progressive area of practice, especially with its focus on innovative technologies combined with sensitive care. “
The guide aims to offer training and career support for fertility nurses taking on increased clinical responsibility.
Carmel added: “Fertility nurses are increasingly providing nurse-led, holistic care, from investigation to early pregnancy and end of treatment management. This requires expert education and training to support career progression.”
