RCN legal team – winning for members
Published: 13 September 2012
The outstanding achievements of the RCN’s legal services team and Senior Legal Officer Jonathan Green in the RCN Exeter officer have been recognised by the judges of a prestigious award.
Jonathan has been shortlisted for the Law Society's Excellence Awards in the category of in-house solicitor of the year, and the RCN legal services team has been shortlisted in the excellence in client care category.
The team has been consistently successful in supporting members and winning cases on their behalf. For example, last year in England and Wales, the RCN recovered more than £4 million in compensation for members, with compensation wins in Scotland and Northern Ireland running into hundreds of thousands of pounds.
In 80 per cent of regulatory cases referred to the Nursing and Midwifery Council where members were represented by RCN lawyers, it was found there was no case to answer or no sanction given.
Chris Cox, Director of RCN Legal Services, said the nominations reflected the hard work the team puts into protecting members’ interests. “I’m so pleased that the whole team’s work has been recognised,” he said. “We aim to provide RCN members with an excellent service during periods in their lives which may be particularly difficult for the individuals involved.”
The Law Society's Excellence Awards reward the most outstanding practitioners in the legal profession and are open to the entire legal sector. The winners will be announced by BBC broadcaster Mishal Husain at a ceremony in London on 18 October.
