RCN members: have your say on mental health in England

Published: 20 April 2009

RCN members with an interest in mental health will be pleased to hear about the launch of a new strategy in England entitled 'New Horizons', announced by Care Services Minister, Phil Hope.  Building on the National Service Framework for mental health, which finished in 2009, the strategy will promote good mental health and well-being, whilst improving services for people who have mental health problems.

RCN members are encouraged to attend one of the New Horizons 'listening events' which start in April 2009, where views will be sought on the new strategy should cover.

RCN Mental Health Adviser, Ian Hulatt said:

"Many improvements were and are being made to services as a result of the Mental Health National Service Framework. However, there is still further to go. We need RCN members to share their vision of how mental health services can continue to best meet the needs of the people they care for."

It is expected that the strategy will be completed later this year (2009), following a formal consultation.
