RCN offers message of support to Zimbabwe nurses

The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) has today written to the President of the Zimbabwe Nurses Association, offering its support and solidarity to nurses working in a country affected by a socio-economic crisis and recent cholera outbreak that has killed hundreds, and infected thousands.
RCN Chief Executive & General Secretary, Dr Peter Carter, said in the letter of support to President Doreen Choruma, “In the midst of all this, Zimbabwe’s nurses have maintained both their dignity and their professionalism. In fact, your members have done what nurses the world over are renowned for doing – they have put the needs of their patients first. “
The RCN also made it clear to the Zimbabwe Nurses Association that it condemns the behaviour of police in Zimbabwe who broke up a peaceful protest by nurses and doctors in Harare this month urging their Government to provide desperately needed support and resources.
Dr Carter added, “Please know that, in this difficult hour for your country and your nurses, the RCN and every one of our 395,000 members stands shoulder to shoulder with you.”
