RCN: vitamin D deficiency problems are preventable

Vitamin D deficiency is a growing problem, but it is also a preventable as long as people are aware of the warning signs and how they can prevent it, the RCN has said.
The comments were made in response to a warning by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) about the growing incidence of vitamin D deficiency in the UK population.
Dr Peter Carter, RCN Chief Executive & General Secretary, said that school nurses and health visitors are well placed to spread awareness by working with families and teachers to improve education around vitamin D deficiency.
“This warning adds to the evidence that school nurses and health visitors make real life long improvements to a child’s health by supporting families from an early age with education and support,” he added.
