Unsocial hours consultation announced
Published: 05 August 2008
The RCN is seeking member views on the implementation of Agenda for Change unsocial hours payments. Current arrangements, which were last updated on 01 April 2008, ensure that nurses are paid when on annual leave 'as if they had been at work'. This is based on an annual leave entitlement of 27 days.
A consultation has been announced to seek views on the best way to implement this. A letter from the Chair of the NHS Executive Staff Side has been published which outlines the issues and suggests questions to consider.
The letter recommends that the issue is discussed locally in partnership with staffsides and employers with any responses being sent jointly and signed off by manager and staff representatives.
RCN members are asked to read the consultation letter (Word, 57KB) and send comments to RCN Senior Employment Relations Adviser, Gerry O’Dwyer: gerry.o'dwyer@rcn.org.uk by 03 September 2008.
The matter will be discussed at the NHS Executive meeting on 18 September 2008.
