The Royal College of Nursing in Wales welcomes the Plaid Cymru’s announcement in support of introducing a recruitment target to increase the number of school nurses in Wales.

The Welsh Assembly Government should increase the number of whole time equivalent qualified school health nurses in Wales by an extra 150 by 2012.

Tina Donnelly, Director RCN Wales, said: “The delivery of high quality patient care depends on the skills and experiences of nurses.  All of the political parties in Wales have indicated that they support increasing the number of school health nurses. We will encourage our members to look at which political parties will be pushing for an increase in school nursing in their manifestos. The RCN wants to see the government turn talk into action.  This would demonstrate the government’s commitment to the future health and well-being of young people in Wales.”
