RCN Wales responds to kidney cancer drug annoucement

RCN Wales has responded to the Minister's annoucement that Kidney Cancer drugs will now be available in Wales.
Edwian Hart AM, Welsh Assembly Government Minister for Health and Social Services has announced her intention to introduce a system to allow patients to have greater access to sunitinib and three other drugs currently being reviewed by NICE for use in advanced renal cancer - Bevacizumab (Avastin), sorafenib (Nexavar) and temsirolimus (Torisel) .
Responding to the Health Minister's announcement Tina Donnelly, Director RCN Wales said: "We are pleased that the Minister has looked at funding inconsistencies on drug prescribing in Wales. Unfortunately, a post code lottery among NHS patients still exist. We want to ensure that all patients and their families are treated with sensitivity and respect, with best practice on quality healthcare in end of life care and palliative care."
RCN Wales has lobbied for greater numbers of specialist nurses and nurses working in the community as part of its Get it Right campaign.
