Royal College of Nursing in Wales Responds to Welsh Government’s ‘Staff are key to the future of the NHS – Health Minister launches new workforce framework
In a statement from Welsh Government earlier today it was acknowledged that training and development of senior nurses really did deliver a high quality service with delivery and outcomes to positive patient care and rehabilitation.
Now that this is acknowledged the RCN in Wales would expect a continuing commitment from our Health Minister that nurses in Wales will have the necessary funding and resources to deliver for our patients.
Lisa Turnbull, Policy and Public Affairs Adviser, RCN Wales said: "We give a cautious welcome to this announcement from the Welsh Government. We would like a commitment from the Welsh Government that all nurses in every field of practice will have the opportunity for Continuing professional development (CPD) to enhance their skills and improve patient care. Figures from the RCN Wales Employment Survey (2011) show that Wales is falling behind the rest of the UK with CPD. We have seen how CPD improves patient care and outcomes and encourage our Government here in Wales to promote and invest in CPD."
