Flying the flag for Nurses' Day
Published: 15 May 2008
Nurses from across the West Midlands embraced the celebrations for Nurses’ Day on 12 May, as our selection of pictures shows.
Royal College of Nursing activists and members organised or attended numerous events across the region to mark the special occasion. The activities included RCN displays and member recruitment events, branch meetings and celebrations and work shadowing of nurses by senior managers.
RCN regional board chair and council member Tracey Budding met nurses, support staff and volunteers at the John Taylor Hospice in Erdington, Birmingham. She said: "The work of staff in hospices requires particular dedication and I was delighted to be able to visit this hospice.
"Not all of the nursing staff work in the hospice itself, and I was interested to hear about the work of the community nursing teams, who help patients in their own homes, and the bereavement support teams who assist patients and their families."
At St George’s Hospital in Stafford – part of South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare Foundation Trust – the RCN presence was supported by online resource site Univadis, who provided USB hubs, and Nursing Standard magazine.
RCN lead steward Mark Butler said: "This is the third time that we have celebrated Nurses’ Day at the trust and the list of people wanting to be associated with it continues to grow."
