The RCN has this week launched two eHealth policy documents entitled “Consent to access, share and create eHealth records” and “Nursing content of electronic patient / client records”.
RCN responds to acute mental health hospitals report

The RCN has said that the recent Healthcare Commission report on acute mental health hospitals shows that new services developed in the community are effective. However, the College warns that in-patients are not getting a service as good as it could be.
New Chief Executive of the Care Quality Commission

Cynthia Bower has been appointed as Chief Executive of the Care Quality Commission and will start in her role in August 2008.
RCN supports HPV vaccination programme

The RCN has offered its support to the extension of the national vaccination programme against HPV (human papilloma virus). The College has, however questioned whether there are enough trained school nurses in post to facilitate the programme.

Invitation to participate in dementia consultation

RCN members are being invited to participate in an RCN online consultation on the Department of Health’s draft National Dementia Strategy for England. The consultation, led by the RCN Nursing Department, will ensure that member views will directly inform the formal RCN response.
RCN welcomes decreases in MRSA infections

The RCN has welcomed the Health Protection Agency’s latest figures which show a 30 per cent decrease in reported MRSA (meticillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus) cases in the 2007/08 financial year.
RCN welcomes new acute mental health guidance for women

The RCN has welcomed the publication of ‘Informed Gender Practice, Mental Health Acute Care That Works for Women’. The guidance focuses on the issues of appropriate care for women who are acutely ill and how that differs from care given to men.
RCN welcomes Government End of Life Care Strategy

The Royal College of Nursing is encouraged by the Government’s plans to increase its investment in training and development of health and social care professionals, as part of the End of Life Care Strategy.
Rise in fuel duty postponed

The fuel duty rise of two pence a litre planned for this October has been postponed until 2009. With fuel prices rising, the RCN has welcomed this, saying it is positive news for those who use their cars for work and social purposes not to be hit by another cost increase.
