Government under fresh pressure to implement nurses’ pay award in full, says RCN
Published: 24 August 2007
Responding to the news that Scottish nurses will receive their full pay award in April, General Secretary of the RCN, Dr Peter Carter said:
“Today's announcement by Andy Kerr MSP, the Scottish Health Minister, to implement the pay award for nurses in full and without staging is a move that the RCN and our members welcome and applaud.
“By following the recommendations of the Independent Pay Review Body, Scotland's Executive is also setting an example that the Government in Westminster should follow as a matter of urgency.
“While the RCN would not want to see this as a step towards separate pay deals for the different countries of the UK, today’s decision will clearly put fresh pressure on the government to rethink their decision to stage the pay award for nurses this year – a decision which is unjust and undeserved.”
