RCN welcomes Gordon Brown's NHS pledge
Published: 24 August 2007
Dr Peter Carter, General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) said: "At our annual Congress in Harrogate this year the Royal College of Nursing called on the next prime minister to make the NHS his number one priority. We therefore welcome Gordon Brown's announcement that he will put the NHS at the top of his domestic agenda when he becomes prime minister in six weeks time.
“In April the RCN commissioned the independent pollsters YouGov[1] to find out what the public's priorities for the next government were. The survey of more than two thousand people across the UK found they rated the NHS as the main priority for the government, ahead of law and order, education, defence and the environment.
“The RCN therefore applauds Mr Brown for his commitment to the NHS and we look forward to working with him to build a health service that delivers quality care for patients, value for money for taxpayers and a fair deal for staff."
