RCN welcomes DH Framework for NHS Continuing Healthcare and NHS funded Nursing Care

Published: 24 August 2007

The Royal College of Nursing today (Tuesday 26 June 2007) welcomed The National Framework for NHS Continuing Healthcare and NHS funded Nursing Care issued by the Department of Health (DH).

Janet Davies, Executive Director of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), said: “This framework is a significant though overdue step forward in helping to address unacceptable regional variations in access to funded nursing care.

“The real challenge now will be how the recommendations of this framework are implemented given the financial pressures primary care is facing.

“The implementation of this framework will need careful monitoring and the proof of its effectiveness will be in terms of the number of people who become eligible for funded continuing care. Likewise the RCN would hope that those currently being cared for on the highest tier are not worse off financially as a result.”
