RCN response to Lord Darzi’s interim report on the ‘Our NHS, Our Future’ review
Published: 04 October 2007
Commenting on the launch of Lord Darzi’s interim report on the ‘Our NHS, Our Future’ review, Dr Peter Carter, General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), said:
“This interim report is an important step in the right direction with its focus on giving power back to frontline staff, partnership working, patient-centred care and innovation.
“Nurses have already shown just how innovative they can be when given the chance and are already helping patients to access high quality care when and where they need it through nurse-led services, such as NHS Direct and by extending their roles and responsibilities.
“However, high quality care for all will only be achievable with sustained investment in the NHS and in its staff. Working with, and listening to, frontline staff will be key to the success of any health service reform. We look forward to working with Lord Darzi ahead of the publication of his full report next year.”
