RCN welcomes introduction of ContactPoint
Published: 27 January 2009
In response to today’s announcement on ContactPoint; a contact index of all children in England, Royal College of Nursing Chief Executive & General Secretary Dr. Peter Carter said:
“Nurses, midwives and health visitors play a key role in supporting children and young people. Some practitioners have already experienced similar schemes and have advised us they are confident that ContactPoint will enable them to contact the right professionals quickly. When we are talking about the well-being and safety of children and young people this can only be a good thing.
“Practitioners and the public need to be assured that ContactPoint will never contain information on medical records so there is no danger of sensitive health data falling into the wrong hands.
“We now look forward to working with the Department for Children, Schools and Families to assist them in implementing this in a timely manner”.
