Nurses welcome action to check on their health and wellbeing

Published: 26 November 2008

Commenting on the announcement of a review of the health and wellbeing of the NHS workforce by the Government, Dr Peter Carter, Chief Executive and General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing, said:

“We welcome this Review as its acknowledgement that healthcare workers are entitled to enjoy good health and wellbeing as much as everyone else.

The lack of interest or action from Government ands Trusts on this issue is ironic given the pivotal roles nurses play providing occupational health care to Britain’s workers.  Nor should the damaging effect this issue is having on the retention of skilled and experience nurses within the NHS mustn’t be underestimated.

“Post the review we will be watch eagerly to ensure that its aims aren’t betrayed by NHS Trusts or other stakeholder because a lack of finances or other resources.”
