Nurses welcome dignity drive
Published: 12 January 2010
Welcoming the publication of an account by Sir Michael Parkinson of his year as the National Dignity Ambassador, Janet Davies, Executive Director of Nursing & Service Delivery at the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), said:
“We were honoured to have Sir Michael speak at our annual Congress last year, and value his tremendous efforts to improve dignity in the NHS. The RCN actively encourages and empowers health care workers to improve dignity in care and we welcome all efforts which help to prioritise this important aspect of care.
“The Action Day and grant will provide additional opportunities to highlight the importance of going that extra mile to provide high quality personal care. Dignified care does not have to be costly – simple things like asking how a patient would like to be addressed do not cost a penny but can make a big difference to the patient.”
