RCN calls for investment in specialist dementia nurses
Published: 03 February 2010
Commenting on new figures from the Alzheimer’s Research Trust indicating that dementia is more prevalent than previously thought, Dr Peter Carter, Chief Executive & General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), said:
“It is deeply concerning that the prevalence of dementia is thought to be even greater than previously thought. In the absence of a cure, this devastating condition will continue to affect increasing numbers of people for the foreseeable future. As well as improving funding for dementia research, greater investment is also needed for specialist dementia nurses, who provide invaluable support for dementia patients, their carers and families.”
