RCN comment on health visiting

Published: 20 October 2011

Responding to the NMC’s plans for reform of health visiting regulation, Royal College of Nursing Executive Director of Nursing and Service Delivery, Janet Davies, said:

“Health visitors are the cornerstone of an efficient public health service for children and families and it is vital that both their role and the services they deliver are fit for purpose. We are looking forward to working with the NMC to ensure they continue to develop the skills and knowledge to make a significant contribution to the health and wellbeing of families and communities.

“We are particularly pleased to see that health visiting will remain a post registration qualification and while the Government has committed to increasing the number of health visitors by 4,200, we would now urge them carry out this commitment as a matter of urgency.”
