RCN comment on the new public health system

Published: 20 December 2011

Commenting on new information published today by the Department of Health on the new public health system, Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Chief Executive & General Secretary, Dr Peter Carter, said:

“The RCN welcomes moves by the Department of Health to clarify the new public health system. However, it remains unacceptable that we are still waiting for the publication of operational details for a public health outcomes framework, along with other key documents on funding and a public health workforce strategy. It seems totally illogical that changes are already being implemented without a concrete idea of what the outcomes should look like.”

“It is highly irresponsible to forge ahead with these changes given the absence of such key information and before the legislative process has been completed. Publication of these documents has been delayed for some time and we look forward to studying the outcomes framework in January. We trust that information on funding and the workforce will follow swiftly. ”
