Dr Peter Carter, Chief Executive & General Secretary of the RCN said:

“We would like to wholeheartedly congratulate Dame Sally Davies on her appointment as Chief Medical Officer. The Royal College of Nursing has long enjoyed a strong and productive relationship with the CMO and we have worked together on a number of projects. We have long been admirers of the work of Dame Sally and this appointment sends the right message in terms of public health. The healthcare professions need to work together to deal with the rising burden of public health issues such as smoking, binge drinking and obesity, and we are sure that Dame Sally will make an impressive contribution.”
