RCN: Nutritional Care is a top priority

Published: 19 September 2008

The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) this week launched two new information resources for nurses and other healthcare workers to help them provide their patients with good nutritional care.

The new resources include a booklet- Enhancing Nutritional Care Booklet- and CD - Improving Nutritional Care Workshop- and were launched at the RCN’s Improving Nutritional Care… Evidence for Practice Conference in London this week.

Dr Peter Carter, Chief Executive & General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), said:

“The delivery of quality nutritional care is a fundamental of good healthcare, and we will continue to support nurses through education and training to improve and maintain nutritional care for patients.

“We have created this booklet and CD with the aim of them playing a significant role in improving the delivering of quality food and beverage services, nutritional care, and ensuring the health, wellbeing and dignity of patients.”

Users of the Booklet will find four case studies set in a variety of different healthcare settings, where nutritional care has been enhanced, and also get valuable information on how multidisciplinary teams have been able to implement changes successfully.

The CD contains a practical guide on how to host a workshop for healthcare staff, which aims to enhance and initiate change in the delivery of nutritional care.

“The workshop and resources form part of the successful Nutrition Now campaign, which is continuing to make significant inroads in the delivery of nutritional care to patients.”
