RCN responds to Healthcare Commission annual health check

Published: 18 October 2007

Responding to the publication of  the Healthcare Commission annual health check RCN  General Secretary Dr Peter Carter said;

"The results of the annual  health check show that there is welcome progress in the NHS but there is  still work to be done to ensure patients get the safe, quality care they  deserve.

“The report also shows that trusts  have improved on infection control but standards need to be  higher. The lessons of the last few weeks prove that this  issue is literally one of life and death. For us to tackle healthcare  acquired infections staff need to be fully supported, the right resources have  to be in place and responsibility must be shared from the board to  the ward.”
