Published: 28 January 2009
Commenting on the launch of the new NHS Strategy Saving Carbon, Improving Health, Dr Peter Carter, RCN Chief Executive & General Secretary, said:
“The launch of the Saving Carbon, Improving Health strategy is welcome news and an indication that the Government is committed to tackling this serious issue. Carbon reduction is one of a number of important issues which must be addressed to ensure a healthy and sustainable future for both patients and staff.
The commitment and involvement of staff at all levels from board room to staff room, as well as appropriate investment in the NHS, will be needed to realise the longer-term goals of this ambitious strategy.
There are many opportunities for nurses to champion improvements, from recycling waste to raising awareness among colleagues about how best to use valuable resources.”
