RCN response to Children’s and Young People’s outcomes strategy

Published: 26 January 2012

Responding to today’s announcement of the ‘Children’s and Young People’s outcomes strategy,’ Royal College of Nursing Chief Executive & General Secretary, Dr Peter Carter, said:

“We welcome this announcement and the recognition that health service provision needs to improve to meet the needs of children and young people.  We have said for some time that provision for children and young people often remains a Cinderella service within the NHS.

“For this forum and the outcome to be fully effective, it is vital that its members listen and engage with children and young people and take their views on board. Equally, they must meet with parents and carers to find out how the NHS needs to develop to meet the needs of children and young people.

“The Royal College of Nursing will be working closely with the Children and Young People’s Forum to gather the views of children and young people, as well as nurses and healthcare assistants, so that the key issues in this hugely important area can be addressed.”
