RCN response to Liberal Democrat Party Manifesto 2010

Published: 14 April 2010

The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) today (14 April) responded to the publication of the Liberal Democrat Party Manifesto 2010. Tom Sandford, Director of RCN England, said:

“Nurses will welcome the pledge to tackle excessive drinking by supporting a ban on the sale of below-cost price alcohol. We are pleased that our manifesto call to protect the nation’s health by taking action on alcohol abuse has been recognised. To minimise the harm caused by excessive drinking we now need a single mandatory code to better regulate the sale, labelling and advertising of alcoholic products.

“The RCN is committed to working with whichever party wins the election to ensure patients receive the best care possible. High quality care depends on safe staffing levels, time to train, support for specialist nurses and sustained investment in services, staff and facilities. We will be examining the detail of this manifesto and what it will mean for nurses and the patients that they care for.”
