RCN scoops international film award

Published: 28 January 2009

An educational film commissioned by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) has won a Gold World award at the prestigious New York Festivals International Film and Video Awards 2009.

The I-MOTUS produced film forms part of the RCN’s national Dignity: at the heart of everything we do campaign, which aims to provide nursing team with practical tips and skills to maintain and promote dignity in the workplace, and was produced in partnership with Help the Aged.

It is a key component of the Delivering Dignified Care practice support pack, and is a valuable tool to enable nursing teams across the UK to share best practice by holding workshops locally.

Dr Peter Carter, Chief Executive & General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing said:

“I am delighted to see that the Dignity film has received international recognition. The dedication, passion and enthusiasm of individuals at the RCN, Help the Aged and I-Motus has resulted in a film which accurately illustrates how people feel when they don’t receive dignified care, while providing examples of how nursing staff across the UK are already leading the way in providing the best possible care. The film has been welcomed by our members who feel it is an ideal tool to inform and empower their colleagues to remove the barriers to quality patient care.”

Paul Cann, Director of Policy and External Relations at Help the Aged, said:
“Being treated with dignity is of paramount importance to older people so it’s great that this film has received such recognition.  Nurses play a crucial role in ensuring older patients are treated with respect and we’re delighted this film will encourage a higher level of dignity in care.”

Joel Loader, Partner at I-MOTUS said:

“It’s a fantastic way to start the year and a great honour to receive an award for a piece of work that is of great value not only to our client but also serves the public generally. It was immensely rewarding to work with the RCN on this project given the huge breadth of feeling that it generated amongst everyone involved.”
