RCN welcomes new strategy for primary care

Published: 04 July 2008

Commenting on the publication of a new strategy for Primary and Community Care, Dr Peter Carter, Chief Executive & General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) said:

“The RCN welcomes the genuine potential this strategy has to offer for improving public health, reducing health inequalities and boosting the management of long term illness.

“We are also pleased that the strategy acknowledges the leading role community nurses and health visitors will have to play, and therefore believe it is vital that they are supported with increased investment.

“The RCN looks forward to working in partnership with other organisations to ensure the strategy makes a real difference to the nation’s health and people’s lives.

“The success of this strategy will depend largely upon the development of  world class commissioning and a real commitment to the education and training of community nurses and health visitors.”
