The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) today (31st December) congratulated Chair of RCN Council Sandra James on being awarded an MBE in the New Years Honours List. Sandra James has been an RCN activist for over 30 years and has been given the honour for 40 years of dedication to nursing in the UK and Guernsey.
Chair of RCN Council Sandra James said:
“I am surprised and thrilled to be awarded this honour, but most of all I am delighted that nursing is being recognised in this way. I’ve worked with some really great people over the years and I look forward to continuing to speak up and campaign for nursing and high quality patient care.”
Dr Peter Carter, RCN Chief Executive & General Secretary, said:
“I would like to congratulate Sandra wholeheartedly on behalf of the RCN, not just for this honour but for the dedication she has shown to the College and to nursing. Since taking up her role as chair of council Sandra has also had a key role in modernising the RCN. It is very pleasing that dedicated nurses are being recognised for the unparalleled contribution they make to patient care. Sandra has been a true advocate for high quality, innovative patient care, throughout her career, and I am sure that she will continue to campaign on behalf of patients for many years to come.”
